Yesterday
So why are we Copland Creative? Well, apart from it being one of the founder's surnames, the name Copland has been synonymous with creativity for over 200 years; and the family tree, if traced back far enough, has produced some highly original thinkers. There were architects and poets and artists. Further back up the family tree, Annie's slightly more distant - and tenuously-linked - ancestor (as in, great great great blah-blah-blah...), was the famous author, essayist and philosopher, Thomas Carlyle, from Ecclefechan, Scotland. The story goes that Carlyle left home aged 14 to go to university in Edinburgh, travelling the entire 80-mile distance - on foot. It's that sense of dedication to purpose and hard work that we still carry through all our work today at Copland Creative. History has inspired us to be where we are today.
Today
Copland Creative graphic design was formed by Annie Copland and David Shannon. Annie used to work in corporate communications. Before that, she trained as a Landscape Architect at Edinburgh College of Art and has experience of visual communication and the effective presentation of ideas. David has several years experience working as a marketing manager, designing brochures, corporate identities and flyers, and setting up exhibition space. He also has a thorough knowledge of the printing process, having qualified as a graphic designer. David also worked abroad as a freelance designer. Both share a genuine passion for illustration and photography and continue to sell their own works independently.
Tomorrow
Copland Creative continues to provide a high quality of graphic design services to a wide range of businesses. Our work ethic has always been about going the extra mile to deliver high calibre results. 'If you're going to do anything you may as well do it properly' is almost our motto. Illustration remains a key focus and theme of our work as we strive to carve our way through an increasingly digital world. In the future we will continue to develop our line of graphically designed merchandise, (aka stylish stuff to you and me), which we hope will be accessible to a wider market.
